A Job Beyond the Call of Duty

I'd like to give some props to a local contractor in East Dundee, Nick Schey, owner of S3 Plumbing and Mechanical, who went far beyond usual service last May.

My son and daughter-in-law invited 60 people to celebrate their daughter's first birthday on Memorial Day weekend and announce the pending arrival of their second baby.

The event was on a very warm pre-summer day. My wife and I were heading down from Wisconsin to help with last-minute issues when we received a frantic phone call that their ejector pump had failed and there was backup in the basement.

I had used Schey's business when the house was first bought and they had been extremely helpful in straightening out problems. But this was Sunday morning around 8 a.m. on a holiday weekend. There was not much chance of anyone answering a service call quickly, but I gave it a try. I left a message and hoped.

Schey called within 20 minutes. Once he had assessed that the pump had failed and did not have a replacement on hand, Schey went to the shop for one and personally arrived at my son's house by 10 a.m. The party was to start at noon, yet despite not having worked in the field for years, Schey got to work on a very messy job to say the least. 

By 11:45 a.m., he had removed the bad pump, replaced it, and cleaned up the area. Not a single person knew of what had transpired.

We often hear about contractors who fall short or misrepresent their abilities. Nick Schey has integrity and is one of the most admirable people I've run into. I just felt that he deserved the acknowledgement.
